Jen and Cale’s wedding at Old Hickory Golf Club combined a classic, romantic style with the hearts of party animals. In my mind it was absolutely perfect.
Jen’s day began with amazing gifts from her loved ones. Her sister arrived with photos of their childhood and happy tears. Cale had a package delivered of flowers, a touching letter, and mix CD with songs from their relationship. This led to a dressing room dance party that rivaled the hilarious moments Cale and the boys had poking fun and watching youtube videos.
Moments before the ceremony Jen and Cale met around a corner to hold hands. Cale had to stop himself from peeking and Jen couldn’t wait to make her walk toward him. The guys ditched their jackets in the heat (90 degrees with 90% humidity) and headed to the altar. Cale waited anxiously as Jen and her dad headed down the hill, hidden behind a white sheet. The sheet dropped and their eyes connected. Cale couldn’t hold back his tears and Jen’s smile was infectious. The ceremony was beautiful with personalized vows, choked up moments, love locks, laughter and more. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling as I watched these two jump and cheer after being named husband and wife.
The ceremony was followed with an entertaining bus ride to Jen’s childhood farm, where we took their engagement photos. The farm is AMAZING and we could have easily spent hours there. We boarded the tractor wagon and were escorted around the property while trying to stay cool. Jen and Cale didn’t let the heat stop them from snuggling close or making out in the woods. Our time spent on the farm ended with popping champagne on a deserted road. Clay and each of his groomsmen shook the bottle before the cork was popped, but nothing happened. The champagne slowly spilled out, but the big explosion didn’t happen. This led to instant laughter and Clay splashing around the champagne.
On the way back to Old Hickory, we detoured to Hogz & Honeez. The bridal party rushed through dance moves and drinks, so Jen and Cale could climb on top of the party bus.
We arrived at the reception buzzing with chatter as friends and family reconnected. The reception was filled with amazing moments. A few of my favorites include the basketball shot for a kiss, reveal of childhood nicknames and hilarious moments during the toasts, amazing dance moves by all, the boys and girls diving for the garter and bouquet, slow-motion video dance booth, and sparklers at sunset on the golf course.
The night ended as perfectly as it started. I tell all my brides to take a few minutes during the reception to step aside, share time with their husbands and take it all in. The day goes by so fast and you want to enjoy every minute of it. I spent a few moments talking to Jen about her day on the golf course and she was so happy. I could see it on her face and her it in her voice. This was her perfect day and I am so honored to have been a part of it.
I always ask my brides a few questions before the wedding, so here’s what Jen had to say.
How did you know that he was THE ONE for you? We have an undeniable connection and the fact that we can have fun together any place, any time.
What’s the most memorable moment of your wedding planning process? The day that I went wedding dress shopping. We got a party bus for the whole wedding party and parents and grandparents. We went to New Glarus and the guys went to the brewery and all of us girls went to the salon. They all had a hand in picking out my wedding dress. My mom actually picked out my dress for me to try on, it was the very first one that I came back to in the end.
Any tips for other brides about the planning process? It’s just a party. The ultimate goal is to marry your best friend, so remember why you’re getting married and don’t forget so stop and think about all of the great things to look forward to AFTER the wedding is over.
What do you feel is the most important thing about your wedding day? Marrying my best friend in front of all of the people that have loved and supported us through our lives.
