A behind-the-scenes look at lovely couples and their beautiful weddings, tips for planning your wedding and preparing for your marriage, everyday life and more!
High school sweethearts Sarah and Andy tied the knot last month after many joyous and adventurous years together. I was thrilled to photograph their Milwaukee wedding after getting to know them through their engagement photo sessions (Greendale High School and Naga-waukee Park) and months of prepping for their wedding.
I began my morning at Sarah and Andy’s beautiful home, while my husband Jeremiah met Andy and his boys at the hotel. Sarah was excited and grinning in between moments of laughter and dancing with her girls. Andy was joking around with his groomsmen and waiting to see his bride for the first time.
We arrived at the church and kept Sarah hidden from both her mom and Andy. She wanted to surprise them both as she walked down the aisle with her Uncle at her side. Sarah’s mom tried to hold it together as she watched her beautiful daughter walk, while Andy grinned from ear to ear. He was the happiest man alive at this moment. The two spent the ceremony sharing stolen glances, laughter and cheer as they finally became husband and wife.
We left St. James Catholic Church and headed downtown for photos in the third ward. The guys smoked cigars at Catalano Square and the wedding party laughed as a man walked down the sidewalk with a lawn mower pulled on. Then, we headed into a nearby alley to have fun with the bridal party. The groomsmen kept us laughing with amazing one-liners, while the bridesmaids showed off their sassier side. Plus, I can’t get enough of Sarah and Andy in the alley or walking along the riverwalk with the view of downtown Milwaukee. They are too cute!
Next, we headed to Whitnall Park for the traveling Sprecher Beer Garden. It was the perfect way to relax and allow the bridal party to have fun before the reception. It also allowed Sarah and Andy to enjoy a few minutes to themselves to reflect on the day. Trust me, the day goes by so fast that you need to take time to enjoy it and not rush through it.
Finally, we were headed to the reception at Muskego Lakes Country club and were entertained along the way with Andy’s awesome dance moves. The reception reflected Sarah and Andy’s wedding style of simple, romantic, soft and a bit rustic. I especially loved the thumbprint guest book and heirloom cake topper. The toasts were amazing, keeping the couple and their guests laughing, crying and then laughing again.
The evening began with a beautiful sunset and amazing dance moves! Sarah and Andy can definitely rock a dance floor! I wish these two years of happiness together and I’m extremely honored to have been a part of their love story!!
I always ask my brides a few questions before the wedding, so here’s what Sarah had to say.
How did you know that he was THE ONE for you? From the first day that I met Andy, I was the new girl in a new school in a new city, and was partnered up with him in Chemistry class. I was in such an uncomfortable situation and there was something so calming about him and the way he talked to me. I fell in love with Andy on day one..I truly believe he was brought into my life to counteract my anxious high strung personality.
What’s the most memorable moment of your wedding planning process? When Andy and I booked our reception venue, it became real. A real date was set. The countdown began!
Any tips for other brides about the planning process? Pinterest is your best friend and enemy throughout the process. It provides a plethora of ideas, however, as you get closer to the big day, the last thing you need is another idea or DIY project to take on 🙂
What do you feel is the most important thing about your wedding day? Marrying my best friend in front of the most important people in our lives.
