A behind-the-scenes look into our business and life featuring posts about the lovely couples we get to work with, beautiful weddings we are privileged to photograph, tips for planning your wedding and preparing for your marriage, things we are passionate about, fun projects and more!
I met Melissa and Jake at the Oriental Theatre for their Milwaukee engagement session. The theatre is beautiful and the perfectly unique setting for these two film enthusiasts/animal lovers. It also sets the stage for their Milwaukee County Zoo wedding next spring. Not only is the theatre full of rich architecture, but Jake managed to find a hidden gem. We He recreated a scene from The Shining with the adult-sized tricycle.
We left the theatre and spent time walking around the neighborhood, photographing in alleys (even found a man sleeping) and ended at the Milwaukee Pierhead Light. Melissa and Jake enjoy really long walks (25 miles!) and spend the early days of their relationship sitting near the lighthouse getting to know each other.
Jake has always been Melissa’s “Book Guy” and knows how to plan the perfect proposal. Jake and Melissa enjoying traveling and frequent the sunshine state quite often. On one special spring evening the couple dined on king crab and steak at Daytona Beach’s finest restaurant. Jake checked his coat pockets every few minutes without Melissa noticing. After dinner they walked out to the ocean. The sound of waves crashed in the distance as the moon lit up the ocean. Jake told Melissa this was the exact spot he fell in love with her four years early. Melissa and Jake were standing on the same beach looking into the ocean, when all of a sudden she ran into the water fearlessly. She started laughing and playing with the waves and Jake knew he loved her. After hearing Jake reminisce about this moment, Melissa took off her winter coat and ran into the chilly water.
When Melissa returned from her impromptu polar plunge, Jake presented her with his ipod containing a digital scrapbook titled “Daytona Beach 2015 Memories.” Scrapbooking is a favorite pastime of Melissa’s and she loved scrolling through the moments of their vacation. The weather had been lousy all week, so Jake added sun flares and exaggerated moments with jumping dolphins. The final page read, “Melissa…” and Jake dropped to one knee with a little blue Tiffany’s box. How romantic!
I cannot wait to photograph their wedding and learn more about their favorite Ally McBeal game.
