“We want to remember how young and in love we are. We love to be together – going out, staying in, traveling, working, anything.”
I ask all of my couples what they want to remember about being engaged so I can truly capture those feelings through photography. Jen and Cale’s response is so sweet and true to the couple. The couple met through Jen’s cousin several years ago and started a friendship. Then, in November 2010 Jen added Cale as a friend on Facebook and he messaged her back asking if she wanted to hang out. It was cold and icy as they drove around talking and listening to music. Jen and Cale stopped at Blue Boy, a local ice cream stop, for a tasty treat. Jen doesn’t remember what they ate, but she remembers having to pay. Cale didn’t have any cash on him and Blue Boy didn’t accept cards. The couple still joke about the fact that Jen paid for the first date. Jen and Cale have a great sense of humor and tease each other about silly moments.
I met Jen and Cale at her parent’s farm in Beaver Dam for their engagement session. Jen grew up on this farm, so it was personal to her and the perfect setting. The farm was absolutely gorgeous and offered so much variety for us. We could have spent all day photographing and still not captured the entirety of the farm. The session was an adventure as we loaded into the utility vehicle and drove around the grounds, ducking under branches and letting the wind blow through our hair. It was a nice break from the 90 degree heat, humidity and swarm of mosquitoes. Seriously, mosquitoes were everywhere, but these two didn’t let it bother their session.
The couple’s proposal story is so cute and true to them. Jen and Cale had discussed plans for the future and marriage several times. They didn’t have a specific timeline and Cale kept saying “soon, soon!”. Two years later the couple went for their morning workout as usual. When they arrived home Jen stepped into the backyard to clean up dog poop. She came inside (still in sweaty workout clothing) and Cale called her into the living room. When Jen came around the corner Cale was down on one knee. He gave her a little speech, but Jen was shocked and doesn’t really remember much of what he said. Cale still jokes about that one. Cale was worth the wait and Jen Jen obviously said yes! It was definitely a memorable proposal that incorporated their love for their pets and fitness.
Enjoy the fun images from Jen and Cale’s Beaver Dam farm engagement session. I cannot wait to get back to the farm for some photos on their wedding day!!
