Nancy + Jeff – New York Meatpacking District Engagement

I love destination engagement sessions, especially when New York is the destination! My husband and I met Nancy and Jeff in New York’s Meatpacking District for an epic engagement session. Nancy and Jeff live in San Diego, so we discussed doing their engagement session in California or Wisconsin. However, when taking a look at our schedules we both had a weekend open in July when they were flying to New York for a wedding. It worked perfectly to meet in New York for an afternoon session before they headed to the wedding.

Nancy used to live in New York, so this session was a chance for her to share her love for the city with Jeff. Nancy and Jeff were great sports as we dealt with temps in the 90s, high humidity and a bright noon sun. Not ideal conditions, but these two didn’t let the weather stop them. Nancy and Jeff were playful and passionate as they kissed and cuddled together as hundreds of people walked by and stopping to watch. You definitely can’t tell that these two have only known each other for a year and a half. They click so well and play off of each other’s energy. It’s amazing!

We started the session near The Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District. We strolled through the neighborhood stopping to visit a few street vendors and admire the street art. From there we headed up to the High Line for gorgeous views of the city, picturesque locations and Nancy’s favorite graffiti spot.

I surprised the couple with ring pops as a throwback to Jeff’s romantic proposal. Jeff and Nancy woke up early on a Saturday morning, stopped for coffee and donuts and headed to Big Bear to watch the sunrise and go off-roading in celebration of Nancy’s birthday. As they walked down to the lake Nancy noticed that Jeff was carrying an Amazon box. She assumed a blanket was inside to keep them warm, so she didn’t question it. Once they were settled Jeff asked Nancy to pose with their dog Baxter in front of the sunrise for a photo. It was so windy that tears were streaming down Nancy’s face. After Jeff snapped the picture he pulled open the Amazon box to reveal a huge bag of rings pops. Jeff got down on one knee and proposed with a ring pop! As he opened the bag, the real ring was hidden inside. He had planned it out ahead of time and swapped the rings the day before. The real tears started coming now for Nancy and she said yes! These two will always associate ring pops with this romantic gesture.

We also switched things up with Packers vs. Chargers fun in preparation for their wedding at Lambeau and game day tickets the day after. I can’t wait for their wedding and to meet Baxter, the cutest pup and soon-to-be ring bearer.

We ended the session with a stop at the City Hall Park fountain and the Brooklyn Bridge. Nancy used to visit these locations often when she lived in New York, so they were the perfect iconic settings to end their engagement session. It was the perfect end to the perfect session.

I know you will get married on top of a mountain, and there’s going to be flutes playing and trombones and flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And you will dance till the sun rises. And then your children will form a family band.
