Kelly + Josh – Winter Camping Engagement

Kelly and Josh met while studying abroad in Australia during their junior year of college. It all started with a long layover at LAX where Josh wanted to share his love of games with the group. Kelly, also being a lover of all things fun and games, was eager to join in a round of cards. Their relationship grew from there as they continually discovered they had very similar interests. They had the whole fall semester overseas to lay the foundations of their relationship and what would become the greatest journey of their lives. Australia provided some amazing places to go exploring and get to know each other, including mountains, beaches, forests, rose gardens, wineries, and the Outback.

Kelly and Josh have been together over five years, with three of those being long-distance. After graduating from college Kelly headed to North Carolina for a year before moving to Syracuse for two. Their relationship has taken them all over the world, both together and apart for three years, and they have always found a way to make it work. Josh was granted an awesome opportunity to complete medical research over the summer in Croatia. Knowing that Kelly would be finishing up graduate school and moving to Wisconsin, she figured it would be a perfect time to go explore the world with Josh. Kelly had her suspicions that a proposal may be coming so she tried to ask little questions or catch Josh off guard, but Josh did a great job fending those off and keeping everything a secret.

Kelly and Josh spent the first weekend together in Croatia touring the Plitvice Lakes National Park. It was a beautiful setting but Josh knew this was not the place to propose. They spent the next week in Split, where Josh completed research and Kelly explored the city. All this time the ring was hiding out in a wonderful spot that Josh hoped Kelly would never check: in its box inside a sock in his dirty laundry bag.

They took the second weekend off to travel down to the old medieval city of Dubrovnik (King’s Landing for GOT fans). After walking around the old city for a few hours in the afternoon and Kelly asking a few more leading questions (ex: “so some of my friends were sure that you were going to propose to me on this trip”), they retired to their lovely hillside apartment. Thankfully, Kelly had already suggested that they cook dinner and make it a romantic date-night. During the middle of dinner with a sunset-colored sky falling over the old city and blue sea, Josh poured a lovely Croatian wine and made a toast culminating in him getting down on one knee and asking Kelly to marry him. Luckily for Josh, she remembered to first say ‘yes’ emphatically and repeatedly. This was promptly followed by “Is this for real? Are you being serious?” After a few hugs and kisses they continued to watch the sun set over the city and enjoyed thinking about the wonderful life ahead for them.

How amazing!! Kelly and Josh’s story of meeting, falling in love and getting engaged is the start of a movie and unforgettable. I am honored to be a part of their story and capture their love. These two are playful, adventurous, passionate, and so much more. I met them at Josh’s parents house in southern Wisconsin for a winter camping engagement session complete with fresh white snow and flurries in the air. The setting for these photos was stunning with a crackling campfire to keep them warm, a tent and blankets for them to snuggle in, a childhood tree house to climb, a swing in the front yard, beautiful wood barns, tall trees, open fields and more.

I cannot wait for these two to wed in a few short months!

  • […] The boys decided to walk from the apartment to the church on this hot day. They stopped at the Tosa Village to take a few photos under the bridge. They also risked their life for requested photo on the train tracks. This was definitely not Jeremiah’s idea, but he played along and even had a leg slip through the tracks. I also found out that a few minutes later a train crossed these tracks. Boys will be boys risking their lives on a wedding day. They arrived to the church unharmed and enjoyed a game of cards before the ceremony. This is very fitting to the couple, since they love games and played cribbage during their winter engagement session. […]ReplyCancel
