Allison + Joe – Downtown Waukesha Engagement

The Steaming Cup in downtown Waukesha is an important location in Allison and Joe’s story. It was also the start to their Waukesha engagement photo session. I met Allison and Joe on a frigid Wisconsin day at this adorable coffee shop in downtown Waukesha. We started the session inside to reminisce about their history there and then headed outside. We strolled along the Fox River and walked the neighborhood before ending with an epic Game of Thrones inspired sword fight. Allison and Joe are big fans (me too!) and brought along two amazing swords: Arya Stark’s needle and Rob Stark’s sword and scabbard.

The Steaming Cup was the location where Allison and Joe met and had their first date. The two had been talking online for a few weeks and planned their date at the Waukesha coffee shop. Joe arrived on time and sat watching the door, while Allison arrived late and scanned the shop for him. She grabbed a cup of coffee and noticed a man sitting alone. She thought it might be Joe and spent the next few minutes working up the courage to talk to him. 15 minutes passed and Joe started to worry that she stood him up. Joe sent Allison an online message, but she did not have a smart phone to receive it. Allison finally walked over and the two started chatting. They took their coffee outside and spent the next hour discussing everything from Game of Thrones to what they wanted for their future. The evening ended with a walk along the Fox River and learning more about each other. What a perfect first date and meeting!

Jump forward to the proposal and The Steaming Cup. Joe convinced Allison that they should try the dragon paddle boats on the Fox River and stop for coffee ahead of time. Allison was fairly convinced of what he was up to since he was excited for the two weeks leading up to that day. The day started warm and sunny, but the skies quickly darkened and a freak storm developed. Joe rushed them into the rain with a plan, but the weather pushed them inside the shop to wait out the storm. Little did Allison know that her friend, Amy, was stationed near the river walk at the proposal location. Joe sneakily texted Amy with a revised plan. As they sat talking and waiting for the storm to pass, Amy walked in the shop carrying flowers. Allison thought she had come from the local farmer’s market, so she was confused when Amy handed her the flowers and pulled out her phone. Amy said something like, “Well, don’t look at me!” trying to get Allison to turn around. When she did, Joe asked her to marry him in the sweetest and most emotional way. The Steaming Cup helped these two celebrate with a free cake and memorable experience.

I cannot wait for these two to wed this fall. I have no doubt that their wedding day will be amazing and hopefully filled with Game of Thrones fun!
