Ali remembers exactly what Dave wore when he came by her apartment for their first date. According to her it was a horrible outfit choice, but one she will never forget or let him live down. This one moment of laughter and playful teasing describes Ali and Dave perfectly.
My husband and I met them at James Madison Park for their Madison engagement photos. Ali and Dave remember hours spent at James Madison Park walking around the lake, playing frisbee and having fun with their friends. The session was fun, playful, casual and fitting to the couple’s love for the outdoors. We wanted to capture how much fun Ali and Dave have together at their favorite spots. The two were so cute together, constantly laughing, cuddling, teasing and reminiscing about the start of their relationship. We also created a few new memories at the session, including a surprise gift from a passing bird.
Next, we headed to the Wisconsin State Capitol to create new memories and remember the old. Ali and Dave met at UW Madison six years ago and have been dating ever since, so the square was a second home to these Badgers. Ali requested “no corny shots of us gazing longingly into each other’s eyes”, so of course we had to take a couple of those. One second of gazing led to several minutes of laughter and the perfect photos.
We walked a short distance to their favorite Madison concert venue, the Majestic Theatre. The two spent countless nights here enjoying their favorite musicians and growing their love of music together. I love that we truly captured Madison life with the guy riding a bike in the background!
We ended the session at the Wisconsin Union terrace, where their relationship began. The couple split a pitcher of Oberon here on their first date getting to know each other and enjoying the start of their love. The Union was full of energy and excitement with musicians performing, boats sailing and laughter all around. We walked to the piers, where they danced on the docks and kissed for gorgeous sunset photos reflecting back on their engagement.
Dave managed to keep the engagement ring a secret for two days in his backpack as he waited for the perfect moment on their vacation. Dave and Ali walked along the beach in Costa Rica when Ali bent down to look at a rock covered in barnacles. Dave bent down too, but he didn’t stand up when she did. He popped the question at sunset and Ali was speechless. The proposal was amazing and definitely made up for his first date outfit.
I am looking forward to their wedding next summer and capturing more fun and memorable moments.
